Fiverr as a Side Hustle For Stay At Home Moms

This article was guest written by Whitney Fisher, a stay-at-home mom of 3. Check her out on Instagram and TikTok @whittywife !

Becoming a stay-at-home mom is often one of the most significant decisions a family has to make. It can mean a hefty pay cut, losing retirement and benefits, lifestyle changes, and more. With every family having a unique set of circumstances, the decision for a mom to stay at home can be challenging.

My Story

My decision to stay home was no different. As a mom, I enjoyed having my career for adult interaction, utilizing my degree, and making money. I felt guilty wanting to quit after I had worked so hard in my almost decade-long career with two specific degrees tied to that field.

However, with my children's school schedules to juggle and my middle daughter in extensive speech and occupational therapy, the decision was a no-brainer in some ways for me to stay home. So a month before the birth of our third baby, I was officially a stay-at-home mom, which I was so grateful was an option for us.

After staying home for about a year in complete survival mode with a newborn, a 2-year-old, and a 4-year-old (if you know, you know), I wanted something more for myself and our family. I found myself craving the ability to work on writing, content, and other projects, but I didn't know how to blend them all and make money from them.

I knew I wanted a stay-at-home mom hustle, but nothing felt quite right until I found Fiverr.

What is Fiverr?

Fiverr is the world's largest digital service marketplace that offers buyers and sellers a digitally streamlined transactional platform. Fiverr is compatible with stay-at-home moms looking for a side business and can work around your schedule.

The company was established in 2010 and was the first of its kind. You can buy or sell a variety of services on Fiverr, some of them include:

  • Graphics & Design

  • Digital Marketing

  • Writing & Translation

  • Video & Animation

  • Music & Audio

  • Programming & Tech

  • Business

  • Lifestyle

  • AI Services

Within each of these categories are different sub-services to offer. Fiverr prides itself on the fact they genuinely believe there is something for just about anyone to sell and make money.

If you have any experience or passion for the above topics, keep reading, and this article will explain how to make an account and start making a side hustle income.

Why Fiverr is a Great Stay-at-Home Side Hustle

Fiverr is an excellent side hustle for busy moms and stay-at-home moms because it requires no inventory, and there is no risk.

The sign-up process is simple; you can control what services you want to sell and how much you want to charge. The best part? Signing up is free; you can do it during nap time or the carpool line.

Sound too good to be true? Let me explain the process.

How to Get Started Selling on Fiverr

Joining Fiverr is a straightforward and streamlined process.

  1. From Fiverr's homepage, click Join.

  2. Enter your email address and click Continue.

  3. Choose your username.

  4. Choose your password and click Join.

  5. You are now registered on Fiverr!

  6. Within the activation email you receive from Fiverr, click Activate Your Account.

Once you have successfully joined, it's time to start researching Gigs! Fiverr calls Gigs their "jobs" or "services" that a seller can provide for a buyer.

Take some time to research different seller categories and determine what fits within your experience and passion.

For example, my main focus is blog post writing, and my niche is family, motherhood, sustainability, and children's clothing brands. These are all things that I am naturally passionate about as a mom, and I genuinely like talking about them.

Pricing and Delivery Time

Another thing to consider is pricing and delivery time. Once you decide what you want to focus on (for example, blog post writing), review other new sellers and see how they price their services and packages. Make sure you are not underpricing or overpricing yourself.

Factor in your delivery time and make sure it makes sense for the Gig and your personal life. One of the best things about Fiverr is the ability to set your terms, including how long it takes you to complete an order.

Hitting Publish on Your Gig

Once you publish your Gig, you may receive inquiries and book some orders (you go, girl)!

Here are a couple of tips for a successful first order:

  • Review the order and ensure you have everything you need from the buyer before you start.

  • Keep in contact with the buyer if you have questions or concerns.

  • Thoroughly proofread your work (I like to use Grammarly).

  • Submit your work within your allotted timeframe.

How Do I Get Paid?

Another great thing about Fiverr is the simple process of payment. And when I say simple, I mean you never have to collect payment or deal with invoicing. Fiverr does everything on your behalf. You can also run reports in your account and see a ton of analytics.

You can transfer your account balance to your bank or PayPal account, making the process easy.

Why You Should Join Fiverr

Fiverr has not only provided me with an income, but it can provide you with an income too! The sky is the limit; the more you work on your content, Gigs, and ranking, the more jobs you can book. Here are a few things I love about Fiverr, and I think you will too:

Mental Health - After becoming a stay-at-home mom and leaving my career, I had a mini identity crisis. I love identifying as a stay-at-home mom, but I also missed that piece of my life where I could take on projects, lead meetings, complete tasks and have a sense of self within my job. Fiverr has given me this side of my life back.

Creativity - Fiverr has allowed me to be creative in a way I didn't know was possible. I get to work with my buyers on crafting great blog posts for their websites, ensuring I hit Search Engine Optimization (SEO) keywords to help them rank better in search results. Sometimes, that means getting creative with how I structure my articles and tone of voice. I have loved finding this passion I didn't even know I had.

Money: As a Fiverr seller, I do not have to worry about collecting payments or sending invoices. All payments and invoices are completed within Fiverr. Once you have completed a Gig, you can access your account balance and transfer it to your bank account or PayPal. Because of Fiverr, I have been able to pay for a couple of trips, gifts, clothes, and more!

Autonomy: You have total control over your business, what services you offer, how much you charge, your delivery timeline, and more. This allows you to build a business around what works for you and your family's schedule, making it a great side hustle for stay-at-home moms or even working moms who want a little extra income.

Is Fiverr Worth it as a SAHM Side Hustle?

Yes! Fiverr is a great side hustle for stay-at-home moms (or even working moms looking for a side hustle). They are a reputable company, and you can make great money by offering services you have experience with or are passionate about. By taking the time to research your niche and price, you can book an order within hours of publishing your Gig.

My only regret? That I didn't do it sooner!
